Not the start to the season that you typically hope for. I felt strong in race trim and figured I was set well for a top 8 (or better) despite my Q-time. Turn 1 and someone decides to force two wide and I end up going wide and spinning in the grass. No damage luckily so I jump back on course and start to run down the positions I can. Sadly, it was short lived as I came up to 15th position entering T3, netcode failed us and ended both of our races.
This “contact” sent us both to the wall in a hurry…..
….on to the Sunday SoF race to try to erase this

I’m still shocked that I pulled it off! This was my first true endurance race, and although I’m usually pretty strong on strategy, I didn’t know what to expect.

I came out of qualifying feeling pretty satisfied with my 5th grid spot. (Replay: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22776982/2.01.8_Spa_HPD.rpy). I decided that I was near enough to the pointy-end of the field that I would just take it easy, settle in, until we first came around to traffic where I feel I have an advantage over most. Luck came my way quickly though, in Les Combes the first lap the pole sitter and Marco got tangled up, taking them both out of the running for the win and gaining me two quick spots.

I continued to cruise in 3rd until, my team mate, German gave me the opportunity to lead our tango. Now in 2nd place, I put my head down and tried to catch Ian out in front. It seemed we were in deadlock though, our gaps never really changed, even with help from my team mate, Tyler, taking off some of my drag on the straight bits.

Action started heating up on track as all three classes really started to get mixed together, incidents were happening all around the track and the marshals had to throw a full-course caution. Erase the gaps…now it’s race time!

Took the opportunity to make one of my pit stops and take some deep breathes. With all the classes mixed up the restart was messy, with a large pileup in Les Combes (Replay: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22776982/2.4_restart.rpy). I thought I had it cleared through a gap, but unfortunately had another car launched at me with little time to react. I was very lucky that I was able to drive out of it and not have to tow. I continued around for two laps with the front end damage, doing some quick fuel math told me that I had to do so in order to make it to the end without a extra stop for fuel later….although it’d be close.

Went in, topped off the fuel load, and replaced the front body work. Car was back to 100%, I was hovering around 5th place now, all there was left to do was attack the track and hope my fuel math played out. It did! Really not much else to say except for great race to all! Traffic was terrific and the battle between Andy and I for the lead in the last half-hour was intense!

…Oh and one of the scariest moments of my career, coming out of Bruxelles, tucked in behind another LMP and there’s a Ford GT stopped on track (Replay: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22776982/HPD_Heartattack.rpy)

Back Onboard

My last update was just before the SSCA 2.4hr of Spa…unfortunately, immediately following that race my life was thrown for a loop and I have spent the last two weeks in “recovery” picking up the pieces. For those who don’t know, I am proud to say that I pulled off the win in that event. My full recap will be posted shortly and I will get on my way with the new season/build. I plan on running the Williams around Road Atlanta tonight in what we are hoping to make the US/Audi weekly SoF time slot (8:15pm EST).

Need to remember to save .rpy’s

Seriously, Trucks at Bristol this week ha been the single hardest week on my SR since joining iRacing. I’m convinced that it reflects the degrading of our society.

I have a bit of history in the esports field…..

In 2007, after being part of numerous competitive teams online and winning several one-off events/tournaments in PGR and Forza Motorsport, I was able to make my dream a reality. DirecTV started an esports league to broadcast live on TV with aspiration of one day being as big as any other sport. You had to be 18 to sign the contract and the draft (like the NFL or NHL) was just after my highschool graduation so I decided to put my heart into it and go for it. I ended up getting picked up in the draft (3rd round, 3rd pick) by the Dallas Venom for PGR3. I could type out an essay’s worth here but luckily a good friend of mine (who I met through the league) is a vlogger and documented everything from his perspective (a Dead or Alive player but the experiences are the same). Lights, Camera, Action.
So that was one season. We made it last for 2 seasons (although they switched from PGR3 to Forza 2 between seasons) before the global economy bombed and DirecTV had to pull the cord. It took me two years to stabilize after we were all “put on the streets” and have just been laying low as far as gaming is concerned (this, 3 years later is the first time I’ve opened back up about it) and even made the switch to the PC platform with iRacing.

Since the time we were terminated, I have been autocrossing. I’m now 3 seasons in, I did my first two in my ‘07 Subaru and took on a new challenge this season with a open-wheel car. Pictures of all this stuff can be found on my facebook.
Message from the man behind the visor

I’ve been kicking around this idea for awhile, a spot for me to place my thoughts and share experiences on iRacing. With a big event planned this weekend (details in a bit), the upcoming World Cup, 2012 S1 just around the bend, and my subsequent charge for a Pro license on the road courses and top-split World Tour appearances….now is the perfect time!

That’s the gist of it, but don’t expect that to be all I ramble about here. There will be plenty of posts about pick-up races, series, news, and the likes (real world and virtual alike). As well as updates on my autocrossing here in Indy once that season starts back up.
